Chapter 11: I Choose to Say Goodbye
I Choose to Say Goodbye
(Today, I said goodbye to him)
People say happiness is to love and be loved.
But they also say—
sometimes, there’s a kind of happiness
called letting go.
We don’t always say goodbye because we’ve stopped loving.
Sometimes, we let go
to complete each other’s happiness.
Loving without happiness—
should we hold on?
The answer is no.
We shouldn’t keep something
that was never truly ours.
Hearts that change… turn cold.
And a heart that no longer beats for us—
why keep holding it?
Clinging only brings more pain,
more torment, more loneliness.
Love should be about joy,
laughter, warmth—
not tears,
not sorrow,
not constant hurt.
If you love each other,
walk forward together.
Build a future side by side.
But if that love fades—
learn to let go.
Let go of what once made you smile.
Let go of what no longer belongs to you.
So I chose to say goodbye—
to set him free,
to let him find happiness
with the one he truly loves.
That hand…
how hard it was to hold.
It was as cold as his heart.
My love wasn’t warm enough
to melt him.
So I stepped back,
to make way
for the one who can.
I hope she brings him joy,
the kind we once dreamed of.
My love wasn’t big enough
to make him stay.
So I chose to let go—
to keep what little we had left,
to preserve enough
so that one day,
if we meet again,
we can smile and simply ask,
“How have you been?”
That— is how I choose to love him.
